Quality in Higher Education Seminar Quality Implications of the White Paper Sheffield
Hallam University, Sheffield, 13 May 2003 Stoddart Building, Arundel Gate Click here for joining instructions and location details The White Paper on The Future of Higher Education (January 2003) has raised important quality issues. Not only has student feedback and information been given a higher priority but there is more emphasis than hitherto on the link between quality and student learning. In addition, the prospect of further concentration of research in 6* institutions and the establishment of an access regulator raise quality issues The one-day seminar will be an opportunity to discuss these quality implications in an open and sharing setting. At the heart of the Quality Implications seminar will be focussed discussion groups, these will be augmented by keynotes. There will be two main themes for the discussions on transforming quality: 1. How does student feedback inform quality? To what extent do institutions need to adopt new procedures to make student feedback effective? 2. To what extent does the White Paper encourage a closer link between quality and learning? Will the proposed concentration of research and the establishment of an accerss regulator encourage or detract from a focus on the quyality of student learning? Please contact Prof. Lee Harvey on Lee.Harvey@shu.ac.uk for further details.
