Transforming Quality

The Seventh QHE Seminar in association with EAIR and SRHE
Transforming Quality

30th-31st October 2002
Storey Hall, RMIT
Melbourne Australia

The two-day seminar will bring together delegates from all over the world to discuss future direction and nature of quality in higher education. The focus will be on the dialogue through facilitated discussions augmented by keynotes and short parallel presentations. There will be three interlinked themes for the discussions on transforming quality:

1. Is quality in higher education about transforming students? What constitutes a high quality learning process and outcomes? To what extent is there a need to reconceptualise how higher education engages with access, employability and funding issues?

2. How might (external) quality evaluation be transformed to help improve the quality of the experience and of the learning?

3. What has been the transformative impact of external quality monitoring (audit, assessment, evaluation, accreditation)?

Parallel papers
Papers are invited from delegates on topics closely linked to the themes of the seminar. Papers should be 25 minutes duration, maximum, allowing 15 minutes for discussion. All paper submissions will be refereed and accepted papers will be published in the Proceedings of the Seminar. Indications of an intention to submit a paper should be made on the Reservation Form.

An abstract of 100 words and a 1000 word outline of the paper is required for the second round of refereeing by 15 June 2002. Those papers currently accepted will be added to the site. It is our intention to make the full transcript of the papers available to the delegates through the seminar website.

Joint papers will be welcome but authors should not submit more than one individual proposal.

Papers are accepted subject to the full paper (up to 3000 words maximum) being submitted before the deadline of 1st October 2002.

Please send abstracts and outlines to Prof. Lee Harvey on Lee.Harvey@uce.ac.uk.
